About - Paul Turgeon Photography

Working within the creative framing of photography and painting, I explore this world through the lens and the brush, I capture and paint mainly in black and white. When exploring with photography, I use long exposure techniques to achieve my aims and ideas. My work often requires me to return over and over again to the same place working it until I feel I have captured its essence, with some projects taking years, and others going indefinitely.

When exploring with paint I would consider it as a form of abstract expressionism, with my focus on automatism, A term from the field of psychology that denotes the separation between a person’s behavior or his /her consciousness of it, which the Surrealists applied to techniques of writing and art-making that they believed unlocked the creative forces of the unconscious, in other words leaving it up to chance.

Be well.
